Being overwhelmed

Moody Morning

I've been aware of and reading about LOA for the better part of a year now. At this point, I won't get into my 'story' other then to say that I live with a condition known as Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In short, I was given away at 11 months, put in a few foster houses and then, adopted into a house of horror at the age of 5.

Consequently, trust is a major major problem for me.

So, what does this have to do with the Law of Attraction and being overwhelmed?

Simply, that I want to live a Law of Attraction lifestyle, yet it would seem that I have a lot of Limiting Beliefs that are interfering with me, surrendering over my need, (real or imagined) of being in control of all of my defences that I have developed, over the years, to protect myself from ever being hurt by anyone ever again.

Therefore my question is this:

What steps can I take to:

a) Recognize those limiting beliefs and

b) Release them (if that is what you are to do with them??)

Since I'm not sure what to do I am feeling overwhelmed and fearful that I am a hopeless case.

In gratitude thank you for your help....

Negative or limiting beliefs can manifest themselves in a number of ways.

There are of course the obvious which could be negative beliefs you have about yourself, which you remind yourself daily by sprinkling your everyday conversation. Self-deprecating remarks, which influence your behaviour or beliefs.

They could also be negative self-images you have of your body, looks, face, weight, colouring, hair, feet, or other parts of your body, or maybe negative assessment you or others have made of your skills, ability, knowledge, intelligence, creativity, or common sense. You have agreed with this internally and, thus, believe it true of you.

Negative Self-Scripts could include negative stories about your past behaviour, failures, or performances that you run over in your mind and influence your current conduct or maybe attitudes about the possibility of your achievement of success in your life.

Here are some other ways that Negative Self-Scripts can be shown;

Feelings of anger, resentment, hostility, rage or guilt

Negative prophecies that you or others have made about yourself, your future, your success, your relationships, your family, or your health

Ways in which you deny yourself rewards for your goodness, hard work and caring

Feelings of over-responsibility with which you burden yourself.

Dread and fear you have when facing your future; the belief that you do not have what it takes to survive or to be successful in whatever circumstances you face.

Feelings of failure you harbour about real or imagined mistakes in the past and your "assured'' failures in the future.

Feelings of jealousy and inferiority.

Limiting believes can also be hidden away, feelings that are not so consciously obvious, and these tend to be the more difficult to identify and deal with.

To try and find these limiting beliefs, I would follow a simple three-step procedure.

Step 1

To start, write a list of all the things you do not want in your life.

I know that this may seem a little strange at first, bit it is important to identify the things that you do not want in your life, so that you can start to change them.

So what sort of things would you include in such a list?

Anything you are unhappy with, anything you complain about, anything you don’t like about your surroundings or yourself.

Step 2

Once you have written your list you rewrite it, turning each dislike or complaint, 180 degrees into an intention.

For instance, if you had written down that you disliked your car, you would rewrite your dislike as an intension or goal, starting your intension with the words

I intend to have...

I choose to have....

or I now have...

Don’t be tempted to write your goal with the words ‘I want to have....’ as ‘want’ is an emotion of not having, and is counter productive.

Later on you can use these goals in affirmations and visualizations, but for now we are trying to uncover the negative emotions

Step 3

So now you have an extensive list of intensions or goals, a powerful thing in itself, but we can take this a stage further.

Read out a goal, one at a time, and for each goal, ask yourself a series of questions.

What does it mean to you that this goal is not happening in your life?

Why do you think that this goal not happening yet?

Do you feel that you deserve to have this goal?

Do you feel that this goal can happen to you?

By asking yourself these questions about the thing you intend to do in your life, and writing down any thought or answer that pops into your head, you will be surprised at some of the negative ideas that you never thought you had going on.

So how do you deal with your limiting self-beliefs?

There are a number of ways of dealing with these negative emotions, the more traditional ways like affirmations, of which you’ll find extensive ideas on my affirmations page.

However, there are more ways to overcome these emotions, ways in which you can target negative or limiting beliefs quickly and precisely.

EFT would be my recommendation, as it’s extremely effective and you’ll see the results almost instantly.

If you are unfamiliar with EFT, then briefly it’s a tapping technique, that works in a similar way to acupuncture. I can’t really go into all the mechanisms for EFT here, as it is quite complex to explain, however, it is easy to master.

My favourite EFT web site is Try It On Everything, they have some easy to use instructions in eBook and on video.

Using EFT you can take your physical and emotional well-being back into your own hands.

Another great way of dealing with problems and negative issues is The Sedona Method

For deep seated emotions, you could try a book called ‘Heal Your Unconscious Pain,’ is a fantastic way of overcoming negativity, but it will make you ‘face your demons’, so to speak, and perhaps it would be better to combine both the book and a bit of EFT.

Click Here To Read Heal Your Unconscious Pain it is written in pdf, so you’ll need Adobe Reader to read it (you should have it on your PC).

Also, just as I was writing this, a colleague of mine called Bob Doyle, (you’ll probably have heard the name from The Secret), sent me a link to an eBook, written by Sasha Xarrian, called ‘The Keys To Phenomenal Self-Confidence’. I haven’t read the book myself, just a quick scan, but it may be worth a look over.

Good luck with these ideas and let me know how you get on.
